In the last years, the VOICE Project organised and presented
VOICE at a large number of international workshops and congresses in order
to develop an awareness rising process on the potentialities of voice-to-text
recognition systems. Approximately 6000 participants attended the presentations,
in which a prototype of automatic subtitling, developed for this aim, was
used to on-line subtitle the speeches, as a demonstration of feasibility and
a way of validation on the field.
More particularly, for the European Year of People with Disabilities 2003,
the VOICE Project organised several activities or encouraged and collaborated
to activities proposed by other partners. The European Year's closing event
was the Conference eAccessibility by Voice, on the 24-25 November,
at Barza/Ispra (Varese, Italy).
These opportunities of meeting will continue, within some limits, contributing
in spreading information on the results achieved by the VOICE Project
and the Development and Harmonisation of Subtitling in European Television
Broadcasting Project and in discussing new challenges.
