VOICE Project: Users' Forum
AFA: Associazione Famiglie Audiolesi
(Association of Families of People with Hearing Impairment)
Cantù (Como, northern Italy)

We're a group of deaf people (workers, students of High school and University).
Our association has the aim of bringing deaf children to the use of words through the education of oral language.
We are going to make people aware of the needs and solutions that are possible for the positive integration in all social contexts.
We published a pamphlet with 10 rules for a more respectful and easier communication between hearing and deaf people. For example, our needs to see
subtitled films at cinema and at theatre.
Last October we started practising theatre in a course with a normal teacher-actor.
We organise the holidays of our young group of fifty persons every year in Italy and in the sea localities of the foreign countries: Barcelona (Spain), Corsica Island (France), Croatia and Portugal.
This initiative gives us a nice opportunity to meet each other (old and new friends) as the young people and I did in the project of exchange of Arts, Sports and Youth in Plzen (Czech Republic) on November 2004.
A photographer took some black/white photos of us emphasizing our facial expressions and feelings and published a book with them to make people aware and understand our problems.
