The Institute for Auditory and Visual Training (IHSB) in LINZ intends to offer and
works out new possibilities of supporting the integration of hearing impaired and visually
handicapped people. The orientation towards changes in society, progress in research,
pedagogic, medicine and technology led to progressive concepts of individual support.
Main topics: accompanying diagnostic (e.g. audio-metric) and therapy in co-operation with
medical organisations and private doctors of the clients; educational programmes to
optimise therapeutic pedagogy for hearing and visually handicapped clients as well as
accompanying pedagogical programmes for the integration into school; co-ordination of a
holistic concept of education, integration and promotion in the field of vocational
integration; information, counselling and training of parents as well as other
institutions in the field; co-operation with universities and other research organisations
at national as well as international level; information and public relations to increase
the awareness for special psychological and social problems caused by the auditory or
visual handicap in public.
Areas of work: centre for pedagogical and auditory counselling and early promotion;
therapeutic and integrating nursery school; boarding school and day nursery; workshops for
vocational training (ladies dressmaker, shoemaker); social counselling and support. trains
deaf, hearing impaired, blind and visually handicapped from infancy till seniority.
The IHSB is collaborating in the VOICE project with the Kepler University of Linz.
