The activities related to applications of voice to
text recognition systems for helping the hearing impaired started at
JRC in 1996, in the frame of ISIS Exploratory Research Programme.
ISIS Scientific Committee encouraged the continuation of the activities
in 1977. The acquired experience helped in submitting a VOICE Project
proposal for the Telematics Applications Programme call for tender,
which was accepted and funded in 1998.
In parallel to the VOICE Project, a new ACCESS to Education for Persons
with Disability Project was proposed and accepted as 1999 ISIS Exploratory
Research Programme. In view of the encouraging results, an extention
has been asked for year 2000.
