ISIS 1998 ANNUAL REPORT
VOICE Project's Objectives
Giving a voice to the deaf
by developing awareness
of voice-to-text recognition capabilities (VOICE)
author: G. Pirelli

VOICE demonstrates how the use of speech recognition systems in conversation, conferences and school lessons, can be translated on-line into PC screen messages
ISIS is developping prototype interfaces for an easier use of commercial products, taking into account the requirements of people with hearing impairments. It is also investigating the use of this technology in television broadcasts and telephone calls.
The aim is to develop awareness in the field among users, system producers and services providers, by organising and presenting VOICE at international workshop and congresses and creating a VOICE Forum on the internet. The prototype has been used to produce life subtitling of part of the VOICE Workshops and User Group Meetings.
