Aims and Objectives
Interest in research on screen translation has increased sharply in the past
decade while at the same time fast moving technological breakthroughs are
continually modifying and renewing both products and well-established methods
of linguistic mediation.
The aim of this conference is to establish the state of the art in terms of
research in this ever expanding field and at the same time to underscore the
work of scholars following new paths of investigation both in terms of innovative
linguistic mediations being examined and pioneering experimental design.
Call for papers
The organizing committee accepts proposals for 20 minute papers in
the following sub-fields: New Trends in Mediation, Multilingual Products,
Audience Perception, Quality, Corpora and Databases, Media Interpreting [new
proposal: harmonisation of television subtitling]
Pre-conference seminar
On the 27 October, Giuliano Pirelli, VOICE Project's co-ordinator at the European
Commission Joint Research Centre (Ispra, Varese), will present a pre-conference
seminar: Using voice recognition systems in producing real-time subtitling
for the hard of hearing.

With the opportunity of the pre-conference seminar on the VOICE Project,
there will be also an informal meeting, aimed at spreading information on
activities performed in the field of television subtitling harmonisation,
in order to discuss of possible new proposals.
The discussion will be extended also to the experience of a theater performance
presented by the students of the theatre course of the Einaudi College of
Turin University, subtitled thanks to the collaboration of SITLeC of Forlì
and the VOICE Project. The meeting will deal about the opportunities of renewing
the performance and extend some aspects of subtitling.
